Geocaching in LAG’s lands

What is geocaching?

Geocaching is a game spread all over the world that consists in a treasure hunting where clues are given from the geographic coordinates of the point where the treasures are hidden.

Geocaching, in fact, unlike other games entirely virtual, has a concrete awareness into the territory. From the given coordinates, with a little patience and a watchful eye in fact will be possible to find a container (sizes vary depending on the hideout) within which is housed a sheet of paper on which to affix the signature (the logbook).

After signing the logbook, the player must replace the container exactly in the place where it was found to allow everyone to live the same adventure!

The reference point for the international community of geocachers is the website www.geocaching.com. For us Italians the website active is: www.geocaching italia.com.

How to play?

To enter into the world of geocaching simply go to the site https://www.geocaching.com/map/default.aspx and start looking for the nearest cache.

Certainly there will be a cache hidden even in your home surroundings! When you have chosen the cache that you want look at, select it from the map to explore the features and read the descriptions. To see the coordinates and begin the hunt you need, however, to login (you can register for free at www.geocaching.com).

Once obtained the coordinates the adventure begins!!

You can enter the coordinates into your GPS device or you can decide to use your smartphone. There are different applications that permits to play to geocaching from mobile. In addition to the official app (surcharge) we signal the application c:geo.

The geocaching paths creation is part of the activities envisaged under the Rural Emotion Transnational Cooperation Project (REM).

Aim of the project is to enhancing the value of the destinations and cultural itinerary of the partners territories through the personalities who, in these territories were born or lived or visited leaving testimony in their works and in their writings. But how to connect and promote these destinations and routes? Through innovative communication and promotion tools as the realization of the comic book work "In the LAG’s land " and through, of course, geocaching paths.

The project’s acronym REM refers to that sleep phase where dreams born, and exactly for this were hidden geocache series called REM in ancient villages, near Castles, monasteries and villas, in the Colli Euganei’s panoramic points and in rural areas of the LAG’s project partners

The initiative is promoted from Padua’s Province and LAG Patavino in collaboration with the Historical, Geographical and Antiquity Department of University of Padua and the Veneto section of the Italian Association of Geography Teachers.
